Study: Evaluation of Supervision Impact on Substance Use Counselor Burnout

This study is currently in the data analysis phase and the survey has closed. Thank you to all survey participants!

​Purpose: The purpose of this research study is to explore the role of servant leadership in clinical supervision on the experience of burnout and turnover intention for substance use (SUD) counselors. This may serve to increase awareness and solution-oriented thinking within the SUD treatment community and professional counseling organizations at large, as well as inform future interventions to proactively disrupt burnout progression and promote counselor wellness. The overall objective of this research is to improve substance use counselor wellness.

A primary goal of this research is to contribute to a better understanding of how specific attributes of supervision may interact to prevent burnout and turnover intention in SUD counselors. 

​

Participants were eligible by meeting the following criteria:  
•    English speaking 
•    18 years or older
•    Currently provide services to clients who have experienced substance use disorders (SUDs), and 
•    Have a minimum of 1 year (12 months) experience providing services to clients who have experienced SUDs. 

​
